Meet Ajoke Lawon,
The Snail Queen
Ajoke Lawon's story begins in 2016, in a student apartment at The Polytechnic of Ibadan. Fresh out of a degree in Purchasing and Supply Management, she set up a small snail pen; not from a business plan, but from curiosity, hunger, and a belief that young Nigerians could build real careers in agriculture. That pen became Joks Snail Farm.
Nearly a decade later, she leads a full agribusiness ecosystem. Joks supplies thousands of households across Nigeria and ships to the UK, USA, and Canada. Through practical training programmes, online classes, and farm setup consultations, she has trained and mentored thousands of snail farmers — becoming one of Nigeria's most trusted voices in the industry. She also founded The Calcium Hub, converting discarded snail shells into calcium supplements for farmers. In Ajoke's world, nothing goes to waste.
Her work has earned recognition through several grants, awards, and leadership opportunities, including the Access Bank Womenpreneur Pitch-a-Ton, one of Africa's leading programs for women-owned businesses. Her mission is simple: build profitable farmers, create sustainable agricultural solutions, and prove that waste can become wealth when innovation meets purpose.
